Anand, Kanetkar bite the dust

The Indian challenge at the Denmark Open badminton tournament at Aarhus came to an end after Chetan Anand and Nikhil Kanetkar bowed out of the men's singles competition at the pre-quarter-final stage.

Kanetkar lost 9-21, 11-21 to Ayob Sairul Amar of Malaysia, while world No 30 Anand was beaten by China's Chen Hong, ranked sixth in the world, 16-21, 15-21.

In the women's singles, Aditi Mutatkar lost 13-21, 14-21 to Lu Lan of China in the second round.

The women's doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and Shruti Kurien went down 21-18, 21-14 to Novita Jo and Polii Greysia of Indonesia in the second round.
