World champion Pankaj Advani again demonstrated his appetite for big breaks as he retained the title in the National Junior Billiards championship, ousting Aditya Mehta of Mahasrastra 1807-535 in a one-sided final in Chennai on Thursday evening.
The 20-year-old Pankaj, representing Petroleum Sports Board, potted spectacularly, chalking breaks of 138 in his fourth visit to the table, 201 in the seventh, 175 in the eighth, 210 in the 11th, 113 in the 15th, 140 in the 18th, 110 in the 20th. He capped it with an awesome 310 unfinished break in the 27th to push his rival into oblivion.
In the match to decide third and fourth places, Andhra Pradesh's Lucky Vatnani beat Sathishkumar of Karnataka 870-650.
Punjab's Ayush Kumar took the title in the best-of-three frames final in the sub-junior snooker championship with a 2-1 victory over Varun Madan of Delhi. Ayush won 52-15, 39-63, 60-19.
In ladies snooker, Karnataka's M Chitra entered the quarter-finals with an easy 2-0 win against Sowmini Srinivas of Tamil Nadu. Chitra won 67-18, 59-4.
