Sporting Clube score over JCT
January 21, 2005 19:42 IST
A goal in each half by foreign recruits Adewusi Adebayo and Chidi Edeh guided Sporting Clube De Goa [Images] to a 2-0 victory over JCT in a ninth National Football League match in Margao, Goa, on Friday.
The Goans led 1-0 at half-time after Adebayo scored a superb goal with a rasping drive from 40 yards.
After the change of ends, Sporting, who held the upper hand, created three more chances before Edeh completed the tally in the 77th minute to give the Goa team their first victory, after a draw, from two matches in the tournament.
It was Joseph Pereira, later declared man of the match, who paved the way for the opening goal. He initiated the move from the left flank and relayed the ball to Dudu, who in turn found Edeh. The latter went past two defenders and beat JCT goalkeeper Mansuru Allends with an angular drive.
Sporting could have won by a bigger margin but Allends came up with some superb saves to deny Wilton Gomes and substitute Alvito Rodrigues.
JCT shone only in patches and had only one clear chance, which came in the first half. But Sukhwinder Singh's try went straight to Sporting custodian Luis Baretto.
