Australian Todd Woodbridge won a record ninth Wimbledon men's doubles title when he and Jonas Bjorkman beat Julian Knowle and Nenad Zimonjic 6-1, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 on Sunday.

Woodbridge, who won his first six titles with compatriot Mark Woodforde, has now won the last three men's doubles titles with Swede Bjorkman.

His total of nine titles is one more than Doherty brothers Laurie and Reggie, who together won eight finals between 1897 and 1905.

"I think for me Wimbledon is the greatest tennis event we play," said Woodbridge.

"It was my dream as a kid to be able just to play here so to be able to say I've won more of this particular event ... than anyone in the history of tennis, uhm, geez, I'm proud of that performance."

Woodforde had already congratulated his erstwhile partner on the record.

"He's always one of the first guys ... to say well done," Woodbridge said.

"Now he just has come and shakes his head at me. Didn't say anything, just shakes his head, says, 'It's amazing'."

The 33-year-old, who said he would not be retiring just yet, is also in the mixed doubles final with fellow Australian Alicia Molik, which is scheduled to take place later on Sunday.

Woodbridge won the mixed title here with Czech Helena Sukova in 1994.
