Kenya's Catherine Ndereba raises her arms in triumph after winning the women's marathon.
Her late surge gave Kenya its first gold medal at the World Athletics Championships in Paris on Sunday.
Ndereba covered the 45-km course in 2 hours 23 minutes 55 seconds, posting a Championship record. Japan's Mizuki Noguchi was second in 2:24:14 while her compatriot Masako Chiba was third in 2:25.09.
