Maharashtra boys too good

Maharashtra's boys asserted their supremacy by clinching the under-19 and under-15 titles in the inaugural Inter-State squash championships in Chennai on Tuesday.

In the boys' under-19 final, Maharashtra prevailed over Tamil Nadu 2-1, thus avenging the defeat of their girls to the hosts on Monday.

In the under-15 category, it was an all Maharashtra final. Maharashtra 'A' beat Maharashtra 'B' 3-0.

In the crucial second singles match in the under-19 category, Maharashtra's Sandeep Jangra played the match of his life, downing a fighting A Parthiban in a 67 minute four-game thriller 9-0, 9-6, 4-9, 9-3.

Earlier, Saurav Ghosal of Tamil Nadu had no difficulty in beating Vikas Jangra 9-3, 9-1, 9-3 in 41 minutes.

In the third singles, Maharashtra's Anurag Gil needed just 27 minutes to dispose off Vinayak Shetty 9-2, 9-5, 9-1 in 27 minutes.

In the matches for third and fourth positions, Maharashtra 'B' lost to New Delhi 1-2.

In the under-15 final, Laxman Joshi lost to Vikram Malhotra 3-9, 0-9, 0-9, Naishadh Lalwani defeated Anup Sharma 9-7, 9-3, 9-0 and Tanmay Govil came from behind to beat Nitin Chauhan 8-10, 9-5, 9-2, 9-0.
