Man U beat Liverpool 2-1

November 09, 2003 21:19 IST

Two goals by Ryan Giggs gave Manchester United a 2-1 victory over Liverpool on Sunday.

The English champions are now within two points of premier league leaders Arsenal.

Giggs scored after 59 and 70 minutes with Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek, who made a terrible error to gift United victory in the same fixture last season, slightly at fault for both the Welshman's goals.

The first came from a Giggs cross, which both United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy and Dudek missed, while the second was a shot by Giggs from a tight angle that the Polish keeper should also have kept out.

Australian Harry Kewell pulled one back for Liverpool 14 minutes from time but United's win lifted their points tally to 28.

Chelsea, on 26 points, host Newcastle later on Sunday.
