Rainer Schuettler of Germany moved into the fourth round after his South African opponent Wayne Ferreira retired after sustaining a muscle pull.
Ferreira, who was stretchered off the court amidst a thunderous applause from the crowd, was trailing 3-6, 6-1, 6-7(3), 3-2.
