Former All England champion Pullela Gopichand comfortably made it to the main draw of the Indonesian Open badminton tournament defeating Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia 15-4, 15-6 in the final qualification match.

The ace-shuttler, who was out of action for over six months due to a troubled knee, showed no signs of being hampered by the injury as he trounced the local boy to fix a date with Englishman Aamir Gaffar.

Gopichand's injury has adversly affected his international ranking, which has dropped to 126, forcing him to play qualification rounds to make it to the main draw.

The Hyderabad-base shuttler, who reached the second round of the Singapore Open earlier this month, had drubbed M Hendry of Indonesia 15-5, 15-11 in the penultimate qualification round.

Meanwhile, top Indian women's doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and Shruti Kurian lost to Neli Boteva and Petya Nedltchav of Bulgaria 4-15, 9-15 in the final qualification round to bow out of the tournament.

National Champion Abhinn Shyam Gupta, Nikhil Kanetkar, B R Meenakshi, Aparna Popat and Trupti Murgunde have been given direct entry into the main draw of the championship.
