Bhupathi-Mirnyi lose in semis

August 17, 2003 15:44 IST

Top seeds Mahesh Bhupathi and Max Mirnyi crashed out of the doubles competition in the $2.2 million Tennis Masters Tournament in Cincinnati, USA, losing their semi-final match to Australia's Wayne Arthurs and Paul Hanley.

The Indo-Belarussian pair lost 5-7, 7-6 (7-5), 3-6.

Bhupathi-Mirnyi, the Wimbledon runners-up, had claimed their third title of the season in the Montreal Masters Tournament in Canada last week and their good run at Cincinnati had raised hopes of another title triumph for the pair.

Bhupathi's former partner Leander Paes has had no such luck however in the tournament, and he bowed out of the event in the second round alongwith partner David Rikl of Czech Republic.
