August 12, 2003 21:02 IST

Celebrated Indian Davis Cupper Jaidip Mukerjea has been selected for the coveted lifetime achievement award of the International Tennis Federation for his immense contribution to the game.

Mukerjea, the first Indian to be chosen for the award, would be honoured by the world governing body of tennis for his tremendous performance in Davis Cup matches, All India Tennis Association vice president Manik Goswami said on Tuesday.

The award, instituted by the Davis Cup committee of ITF, would be handed over to Mukerjea by ITF at their annual general meeting later this year at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Mukerjea, who had the maximum number of triumphs in the Davis Cup for India and served the game both as a player and a coach, would be presented a citation and a certificate from ITF.
