Jordan to return for another season with Wizards

Washington Wizards guard Michael Jordan announced on Thursday that he would return to the court for another season.

Jordan, who turns 40 in February, returned from a three-year retirement last season to average 22.9 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.2 assists a game.

"I am excited to return to the basketball court this year," Jordan said in a statement. "My love for the game of basketball continues to drive my decision.

"Physically, I am feeling very strong, and feel that the steps I took in the off-season have allowed me to return to the game in great condition."

Jordan, a five times NBA MVP and 13 times All-Star, missed 22 games last season with knee problems that eventually led to surgery. He signed a two-year contract prior to last season but had not yet announced if he planned to return to the court for the 2002-03 campaign.

"I am especially excited about this year's Washington Wizards," said Jordan, who won six NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls. "I am convinced that the changes made this summer will greatly enhance our team, and feel that we are moving in the right direction."

Jordan took several months off after the season to allow his body to heal before he resumed workouts several weeks ago. The club signed several guards during the off-season if Jordan decided not to return.

The team's training camp opens next Tuesday at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington.
