Vishal Uppal to replace
Bhupathi for Davis tie

Twenty-five-year-old Vishal Uppal will replace doubles ace Mahesh Bhupathi as the fifth member of the Indian Davis Cup team for the forthcoming World Group qualifier against Australia, in Adelaide, from September 20 to 22, after the latter pulled out citing an injury to his shoulder.

Uppal was included after consultations with team captain Ramesh Krishnan and Leander Paes, All India Tennis Association secretary Anil Khanna said in a statement on Friday.

Paes, Rohan Bopanna, Sunil Kumar Sipaeya and Harsh Mankad are the other members of the team.

Bhupathi, who won the US Open doubles crown last week, partnering Max Miryni, had informed the AITA that he needs rest so that he can be fit for the Asian Games.
