Bhupathi-Mirnyi win US Open doubles

Indian ace Mahesh Bhupathi, partnering Max Mirnyi of Belarus, won the men's doubles title at the US Open tennis championships on Friday.

They beat Jiri Novak and Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic in the final 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

Earlier on Thursday, the pair got the better of American twins Bob and Mike Bryan 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the semi-finals.

Novak and Stepanek had beaten fourth seeds Jonas Bjorkman and Todd Woodbridge 6-2, 7-6 to reach their first Grand Slam final as a team.

In June, Bhupathi and Mirnyi had lost in the final of the $761,000 Stella Artois tennis championships, at Queen's Club.

Seeded third in the tournament, they went down to fourth seeds Wayne Black and Kevin Ullyett of Zimbabwe 5-7, 3-6 .
