Sania-Isha in US Open
junior doubles quarters

The Indian duo of Sania Mirza and Isha Lakhani entered the quarter-finals of the junior doubles at the US Open on Thursday.

The sixth seeds defeated the American pair of Jenni-Lee Heinser and Alex McGoodwin 6-3, 7-5 in their second round match.

In a very close match, there was very little to seperate the teams. The Indians were cleraly on top throughout the match, winning 80 points as compared to their opponents, who won 66.

This is Mirza's best showing at the Grand Slam doubles event.

Earlier this year, she reached the last 16 at the Australian and the French Open.

Isha, who is playing in her first Grand Slam event, is currently ranked 33th in doubles on the ITF listings.

The pair had defeated Sarah Fansler and Alessandra Jordan of the United States 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 in the first round.

They will face Ivanna Isroilova of Uzbekistan and Eugenia Linetskaya of Russia in the quarters.

In the singles, both the Indians went early, losing their first round matches to lowly-ranked opponents.

Isha went down to 53rd-ranked Chin-Wei Chan of Chinese Taipei 3-6, 2-6, in her first round match, while Sania, ranked 36th, lost to 49th-ranked Shadisha Robinson of the United States 6-1, 2-6, 4-6.
