Third seeds Mahesh Bhupathi and Max Mirnyi of Belarus entered the quarter-finals of the men's doubles at the US open on Tuesday.

The duo defeated South Africa's Wayne Ferreira and American Rick Leach 6-3, 6-2 in their third round match.

Earlier in the day, the duo defeated the Australian pairing of Peter Luczak and David Macpherson 6-1, 7-6(7-2) in their second round match.

In the other 3rd round matches, fifth seed Wayne Black and Kevin Ullyett proved to be too good for Swiss pair George Bastl and Roger Federer, winning 7-5, 4-6, 6-4. Sixth seeds Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan defeated ninth seed Dutchman Paul Haarhuis and Russian Yevgeny Kafelnikov 5-7, 6-1, 6-4.

In the quarters, Bhupathi and Mirnyi will face fifth seeds Wayne Black and Kevin Ullyett, while top seed Mark Knowles and Daniel Nestor will take on sixth seeds Bryan brothers.

The fourth seeds Swede Jonas Bjorkman and Australian Todd Woodbridge will take on the unseeded pair of Devin Bowen and Brandon Coupe, while Donald Johnson and Jared Palmer, the second seeds, will face Jiri Novak and Radek Stepanek.
