Rafter enjoying his time away from game

While fans endured a rain delay at the U.S. Open, twice former champion Patrick Rafter had only golf on his mind.

Rafter took a break from tennis at the end of 2001 and became a father when his girlfriend Lara Feltham gave birth to a boy a month ago.

The Australian may have hung up his rackets, for now at least, but when it comes to September his thoughts turn to New York and the scene of his greatest triumphs.

Rafter spoke to John McEnroe, now a television commentator, on the phone from his native Queensland, and told viewers on American television that he had no plans to return to competitive tennis in the immediate future.

He also said he was enjoying fatherhood and was about to "head out and play golf".
