Women's 4x400m relay team wins Asian junior gold

India bagged 14 medals, including two gold, four silver and eight bronze, to finish creditable third in the tenth Junior Asian athletics championships, which ended in Bangkok on Thursday.

The Indian women's 4 x400 relay team clocked 3:40.50 seconds and in the process set a new junior national record.

Khazakistan, with a timing of 3:42.44 seconds, won the silver while Japan (3:44.48 seconds)claimed the bronze.

Early this year, Indian women relay teams won gold in Asian championships at Colombo and Busan Asian Games.

The Indian men's team won a silver in the 4x400 metres relay. The quartet timed 3:10.08 seconds and were placed second, behind Japan (3:07.51 seconds). Iran were third in 3:10.95 seconds.

In the women's shot put, Seema Antil won a bronze with a throw of 14.47 metres. China's Zhang Xiaoyu (18.18 metres) and Zhang Juan (16.40 metres) won the gold and silver respectively.

This was Seema's second bronze medal in two days as she had finished third in the discus throw on Wednesday.

India's Ghamanda Ram was placed fifth in the 1500 metres race. He timed 3:55.97 seconds. Qatar's Suleiman Ara (3:53.52 seconds) and Ali A Kamal(3:53.58 seconds) were first and second respectively while Iran's Sagad Moradi(3:54.22 seconds) won the bronze medal.

In the last edition of the championships, India had won 10 medals -- one gold, six silver and three bronze.
