Arjun Singh sounds warning
with a 6-under 65
Defending champion Arjun Singh sounded the warning
bells for his fellow competitors when he shot a six-under 65 under windy
conditions in the pro-am of the Honda-Siel PGA Championship, which began at
the par-71 DLF Golf and Country Club on Wednesday.
However, Arjun's bogey-free round was not enough to put his team on the winner's
podium, the honour going to Shiv Shankar Prasad Chowrasia's team of Ini
Bawa, Sandeep Jhalani and Mohit Gujral, who tallied 115 stableford points.
Chowrasia shot a one-under 70 to contribute 37 points, while Jhalani was the
star of the show with 41 points. Ini Bawa contributed 37 points in the
stable format event where the team total comprised of mandatory pro score
and two of the best three amateur cards.
Vijay Kumar and his team of Harinder Bansi, AP Kala and Chitaranjan Bakshi
were runners-up with 114 points, while Sheeraz Kalra's team of M Sato, T
Togawa and Mrs Uma Sinha were adjudged second runners-up on countback of the
fourth card after they aggregated 112 points.
Among the pros, Wallie Coatsee of South Africa and Feroz Ali were the second
best performers with cards of four-under 67 each.
Amit Daga won the Longest Drive championship when he cracked a 345 yard
drive on the 12th tee and Bharat Bhushan was 'Closest to the Pin' with a tee
shot that stopped four feet five inches short of the cup.
The winners will receive specialy-designed crystal trophies from Swarovski
during the prize presentation ceremony at the Championship Dinner at Hotel
Grand Hyatt on Sunday evening.
