Natl shooting competition: Amit Kumar rewrites record in 50m pistol event

Ace shooter Jaspal Rana on Saturday won the gold in the 25m standard pistol men's national individual championship, while Amit Kumar (INF) rewrote the record books to finish on top in the 50m pistol junior men individual event at the 46th national shooting competition in Bangalore.

Rana (ONGC), who found his target well on the final round, logged 570 points to clinch the gold. Dhyan Singh (army) and Ashok Pandit (Maharashtra), with 557 and 555 points, bagged the silver and bronze respectively.

Amit Kumar, who tallied 536 points, created a new national record in the 50m pistol event to take the gold. He bettered his own record of 527 points set at Indore.

In the same event, Bapu T Vanjare of Maharashtra won the silver and Alok Singh took the bronze.

Maintaining his good form, P N Prakash of Karnataka won the gold in the 50m pistol men (individual) championship.

Tamil Nadu's Shanmugam and Charanjeet Singh Narula of Uttar Pradesh took the silver and bronze, respectively.

In the 50m pistol men national championship, Mahaveer Singh (army) won the individual gold while Samaresh Jung of the CISF took the silver. Ronak Pandit (Maharashtra) won the bronze.
