Woods happy with his
double-major season

Tiger Woods is his own biggest critic but the world number one was happy with his form in 2002 after finishing tied for seventh at the Tour Championship on Sunday.

Woods finished the season first on the U.S. PGA Tour rankings and equalled Tom Watson's record of four consecutive money list titles.

"It's been a great year. Winning two majors in a year, or even one, is a great year and I'm lucky enough to get two," said Woods, winner of this season's U.S. Masters and U.S. Open.

In addition to his two major victories -- which brought his tally of major titles to eight -- Woods has won a further four U.S. PGA events this season, including the lucrative WGC-American Express Championship in September.

But such was the success he enjoyed in 2000 that many now see that as his own personal benchmark.

The 26-year-old won nine times on the U.S. PGA Tour that year and completed the career grand slam with victories in the U.S. Open, British Open and U.S. PGA Championship.

But after a number of swing and equipment changes Woods feels he is not far off his 2000 form.

"I hit the ball (this season) almost as good as I did in 2000," added Woods, who played with a sore right knee at the weekend.

"I just didn't hit it as close. You know when you've got the confidence, you're rolling, you can fire at just about any flag because you know you're not going to short-side yourself.

"That's what I did in 2000. I fired at a lot of flags. This year I was more conservative, but nonetheless, six worldwide wins is not bad."

Woods also explained how it has taken him a while to become comfortable with his new set of Nike irons.

"It's been a long process, it's taken over a year to get to where it's at now," added Woods.

"We've gone through countless sets to get it just right. I've always been a big believer that I'm not changing unless the product is the same if not better than what I've been using.

"But I'm pretty solid right now. I'm happy with what I've got."

Having completed his regular season on the U.S. Tour, Woods confirmed that he is due to take two weeks off before playing three events overseas, followed by the Target World Challenge in California from December 2-8.

He will then take a month's break before the season-opening Mercedes Championship in Hawaii in early January.
