Israel's Inbar stuns top seed Amanjot

Israel's Amit Inbar stunned top seed Amanjot Singh of India with a straight set victory and stormed into the boys' singles semi-finals in the Bharat Petroleum ITF Junior world ranking tennis tournament in Kolkota on Thursday.

The unseeded Israeli conceded the first three games but bounced back brilliantly with some high qualilty tennis to oust the fancied top seed 6-3, 6-3 on a day which saw two other seeded players bite the dust.

Second seeded Jaco Mathew of India was also shown the door by fifth seed compatriot Somdev Dev Varman while qualifier V M Ranjeet continued his giant-killing act as he demolished third seed Rishi Behl of India.

omdev Dev Varman started on a tentative note and conceded the first set but raised his game by several notches from then on to carve out a 4-6, 7-5, 6-0 victory over second seed Mathew to secure a berth in the last four stage.

Ranjeet, who has been the surprise package of the meet after entering the main draw through the qualifiers, came within sniffing distance of the coveted title with another superb display.

Displaying an aggressive brand of tennis, Ranjeet conceded the first set but staged a brilliant comeback to eventually romp into the semi-finals with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory over third seed Rishi Behl, in a tussle which lasted nearly one-and-half hours.
