India wins a gold and a silver in Baltic Cup

Spearheaded by Olympian rifle shooter Abhinav Bindra, India bagged a gold and a silver in the Baltic Cup, at Arhus, Denmark, the third leg of the ongoing European circuit shooting championships.

Bindra claimed silver in the individual event and easily clinched the gold medal in the team event joining hands with Ashok Kumar Shahi and Charan Singh.

In the preliminary round, Bindra scored 595 points and was trailing three points behind Sweden's Marcus Aker, who had a score of 598.

In the final, Abhinav kept his nerves and shot a high score of 103.9 with a magnificent final series of 10.2, 10.4, 10.5, 10.4, 10.3, 10.3, 10.3, 10.3, 10.3 and 10.9. This took him to a total score of 698.9 (595,103.9) and he covered the lead of three points.

The Swede could shoot only 101 in the finals but was lucky enough to keep hanging at the 1st slot with a total score of 699(598,101) which barely kept him ahead with just 0.1 point.

Abhinav has up till now won four gold and five silver medals in the ongoing circuit.

The next leg of the circuit will start in Hague, from February 6th to 10th.
