China hold Argentina

China continued their impressive run in the elite six-nation women's Champions Trophy hockey tournament in Macau, holding favourites Argentina to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday.

The draw prevented Argentina from sealing a place in the final.

In other matches of the day, New Zealand put up a fine show to Holland 2-2 while Australia proved too good for England, winning 2-0.

In a game of missed opportunities, Argentina scored from just one of 10 penalty-corners -- nine of them came in the first half -- they earned.

Argentina drew first blood in the 10th minute when Vanina Oneto deflected the ball home from a neat penalty-corner variation.

The Chinese, who make up for skill with hard running and staying power, replied eight minutes later through Zhou Wan Feng.

The Netherlands were off to a dream start, scoring within two minutes. However, they were lucky in the end to finish with a draw.

They struck early in the second minute from a corner variation through Minke Booij. But the Kiwis scored twice from penalty-corners, in the 43rd and 56th minutes, through Colleen Gubb-Suddaby and Tara Drysdale to go 2-1 ahead.

They could have made it 3-1 in the 58th minute but Piki Homahona's shot hit the post.

Four minutes later, the Dutch levelled through Fatima Moriera de Melo and held on to take a point.

In the other match, Australia scored twice in the first half through Jo Banning, in the 20th minute, and midfielder Wendy Alcorn, 31st minute, to win comfortably.
