Hiddink to become adviser for South Korea
PSV Eindhoven coach Guus Hiddink, who led South Korea to the World Cup semi-finals, will return to the country early next month to sign a national team adviser agreement and watch a friendly between the two Koreas.
Hiddink would fly to Seoul on September 4 and sign the contract in a ceremony followed by a news conference two days later, the Korea Football Association (KFA) said on its website on Sunday.
Hiddink, a hero in South Korea for helping the team become the most successful Asian side ever in the World Cup, had agreed to continue as an adviser to the national team after returning to the Dutch first division side.
South Korea co-hosted the World Cup with Japan in June.
Hiddink would return to the Netherlands after attending the friendly match on September 7, the association said.
Earlier this month, North Korea confirmed its plans for the match and agreed to send a team to the Asian Games being held in the South's second city of Pusan at the end of September.
The soccer sides last played in 1993 when the South won 3-0.
North and South Korea remain technically at war after the 1950-53 Korean War ended in a truce, not with a peace treaty.
