India bag two gold in Asian Shooting Championship

Anwar Sultan came up with a fine performance to take the individual gold and also help the Indian team win the first place in the trap event at the Asian Clay Shooting Championship in Bangkok on Thursday.

The Indian team comprising Sultan, Mansher Singh and Manavjit Singh, scored a total of 339 points out of 375 to win the gold in the team event.

Sultan fired 114 points out of 125 in the preliminary rounds and followed it up with 24 out of 25 in the final to claim the individual gold, according to information received here.

Manavjit missed the individual silver by a whisker. He shot an aggregate of 136, the same as a shooter from Chinese Taipei who claimed the silver by virtue of having shot 113 in the preliminary rounds to the Indian's 112. Manavjit had to be content with bronze.

Mansher Singh managed a total of 135 (113+22) and was placed fourth.

Chinese Taipei claimed the second spot in the team competition with 327 points while China was third with 319 points.

The men's double trap event will start on Friday with India being represented by Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Morad Ali Khan and Ronjon Sodhi.
