India's performance has no parallel: Milkha

Terming India's performance in the just-concluded Manchester Commonwealth Games as "unparalled", Indian athletics legend Milkha Singh, who himself won a gold at the Games way back in 1958, said the effort should continue till the next Olympics.

"I am proud and happy at the performance of our sportspersons in the Games, especially of those in the discipline of shooting, weightlifting, athletics, women's hockey, boxing and wrestling," Milkha said in Chandigarh on Monday.

He said all the medal winners at the Games, where India finished third with an impressive haul of 32 gold, should be suitably rewarded "so that they get the encouragement and the incentive to perform even better".

Lauding the efforts of the sports persons and their coaches, he said "we should now try to create history at the next Olympics".
