India-US Davis Cup tie put offIndia's Davis Cup World Group play-off tie against the United States scheduled for next week has been postponed in the wake of Tuesday's terror attacks in New York and Washington DC, an Indian official said on Friday. "The tie has been postponed to be played from October 12 to 14," Dr Vece Paes, the father of India's leading player Leander Paes and team doctor, told Reuters by phone from Calcutta. The fresh dates for the tie, which was to have been held from September 21-23 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, were decided at a meeting between Anil Khanna, secretary of the All India Tennis Association, and the United States Tennis Association officials, he said. The AITA and USTA officials met in Cancun, Mexico where they are attending the International Tennis Federation's (ITF) annual general meeting and Khanna conveyed the information to him, Paes added. "They met last night Indian time," Paes said. "Apart from the present security and overall situation, the travel problems also figured high in coming to the decision. External flights to U.S. are still a problem," he added.
