Indian juniors shine

Amanjot, seeded second in the event, defeated local lad and ninth seed Anuwat Dalodom of Thailand 0-6, 6-2, 6-4, while top seed, Megha defeated the fourth seed Petra Teller of Hungary 6-3, 6-1 in the semi-final.

He now will face defending champion Chris Kwon of the United States on Saturday. Chris defeated the 10th seed Artem Sitak of Russia 6-3, 6-2 in the other semi-final.

Chris will have a busy day on Saturday as he is also in contention for the doubles title with partner Hiu-Tung Yu of Hong Kong. They face local doubles duo of Anuwat Dalodom and Natapong Pongkunsub.

Earlier, Amanjot got a walkover from Marco Beeler of Switzerland in the quarter-finals after defeating the 13th seed Yoav Schab of Israel 6-1, 6-4 in the third round and qualifier Anton Tsymbalov of Kazakistan 7-5, 6-1 in the second. He had a first round bye.

The other Indian boys playing in the tournament could not get past the quarter-finals.

Saurabh Singh lost to the ninth seed Anuwat Dalodom of Thailand 5-7, 3-6 in the quarter-finals. On his way he had defeated Wang-Cheng Hsieh of Taiwan 7-6(3), 6-3 in the third round, 14th seed Al Imron of Indonesia 7-5, 6-2 in the second and qualifier Tanasit Isaraphorn of Thailand 7-5, 6-1 in the first.

Seventh seed Rohan Gajjar also lost to Dalodom 3-6, 6-4, 3-6 in the third round. 11th seed Nishank Mishra lost to Marco Beeler of Switzerland in the second round 0-6, 0-6 after having first round bye.

Eighth seed Jaco Mathews lost to 10th seed Artem Sitak of Russia 4-6, 6-4, 2-6 in the third round. Sixth seed Karan Rastogi went down to wild card Weraputt Doakmaiklee of Thailand 4-6, 4-6 in the second round while unseeded Rishi Behl bowed out in the first round losing to Saar Steele of Israel 6-3, 5-7, 3-6.

In the girls' section, Megha will face unseeded Australian Casey Dellacqua in the final. Casey upset second seed Diana Julianto from Indonesia 1-6, 4-6 in the semi-final.

Megha, on her way to the final, defeated seventh seed Sandy Gumulya of Indonesia 6-4, 6-4 in the quarter-final, Tanja Markovic of New Zealand 6-3, 6-4 in the second round and Susan Erma Delport of Russia 6-4, 6-1 in the first.

Another Indian, Susha Abraham, seeded fifth, lost to unseeded Australian Casey Dellacqua 1-6, 4-6 in the second round after getting better of Karamontree Siriluethaiwattana of Thailand 7-6(4), 6-4 in the first.

In the boys' doubles, third seeded pair of Amanjot Singh and Rohan Gajjar went down in the semi-final to the top seeds Chris Kwon of the United States and Hiu-Tung Yu of Hong Kong 6-7(4), 0-6.

Unseeded Saurabh Singh and Nishank Mishra crashed out in the first round, while fourth seeds Rishi Behl and Jaco Matthew lost in the second round to local finalists Anuwat Dalodom and Natapong Pongkunsub 6-2, 1-6, 6-7(6).

Akash Sharma, partnering Yu-Da Shieh of Taiwan, lost to the Indian pair of Amanjot Singh and Rohan Gajjar in the quarter-final 2-6, 5-7.

In the girls' doubles, singles finalist Casey, with Bojana Bobusic of Australia, will face Sandy Gumulya and Septi Nindya Yutami from Indonesia.
