Churchill maintain lead

A goal in the dying minutes by Yakubu Yusuf enabled defending champions Zee Churchill beat Pax of Nagoa by a solitary goal and maintain their lead, after the sixth round, in the second leg of the Goa Professional football league, at the Nehru stadium, in Fatorda, on Wednesday.

In the first leg, both teams played out a goaless draw.

The all-important goal came in the 43rd minute of the second half. Yakubu, after receving a pass from Roque Barreto, dribbled past couple of rival defenders and shot home from close.

Beofre the goal, Churchill had a good chance to score but Peter Mascarenhas shot straight into the hands of the goalkeeper.

With the victory, Zee Churchill remained on top with 13 points followed by Salgaocar, ten points; Vasco, nine points; Dempo, eight points; and Pax of Nagoa, six points. Sporting Clube de Goa are at the bottom without a point.
