Hockey player collapses on field, dies

In a tragic incident, teenaged hockey player Kuldip Horo, a sepoy in the Pioneer Corps Training Centre in Bangalore, died after receiving a hit from a hockey stick in a goalmouth melee during a practice match.

The promising 19-year-old lad from Ranchi collapsed after apparently being hit by a hockey stick during the match against Army Supply Corps, Jalanadhar, on Friday, PCTC coach Williams Kanakaraj said.

It was not clear where he received the fatal hit, Kanakaraj added.

Horo, who had no external injury, was rushed to the Command hospital, where he died.

Post mortem details are still awaited.

The body will be sent to his home in Ranchi on Sunday.
