First round exit for BopannaShailesh SoniYoung Indian Rohan Bopanna crashed out of the Barmera Australian Unity International F6 Futures event, being played at Barmera, Australia, on Wednesday. Bopanna lost to wildcard Todd Reid of Australia 2-6, 3-6 in the first round. Bopanna had lost in the semi-finals of the singles event at Berri, last week. Later in the day, Bopanna and Ronnie Rugimbana of Tanzan gave a walkover to top seeds Ben Ellwood and Dejan Petrovic in the quater-finals. Earlier, the duo had defeated Australian wildcards Chris Guccione and Anton Klaric 7-5, 7-6(3) in the first round. Bopanna and Rugimbana had lost in the first round of the doubles qualifying event at Berri, last week. With the first round loss, Bopanna picked up six ATP points in singles and three in doubles from the two weeks of events in Australia. Bopanna will now be playing the qualifiers at the King's Cup Thailand Open challenger there during the weekend. Meanwhile, Manisha Malhotra and Leanne Baker of New Zealand entered the quarter-finals at the $25,000 Mt.Gambier Australian Unity International event, being played at Mt.Gambier, Australia. The duo, seeded third, defeated Pavlina Nola and Shelley Stephens of New Zealand 6-0, 6-4 in the first round. They now will face the winner of the match between Mireille Dittmann / Kristen Van Elden of Australia and Pavlina Nola / Shelley Stephens of New Zealand. In the singles, Manisha lost to the sixth seed Eun-Ha Kim of Korea 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-7(9) in the first round.
