Four-member team for World athletics

A four-member Indian team, including three women, will represent India in the IAAF World athletics championships, to be held in Edmonton, Canada, from August 3 to 12.

The team:
Men: Long Jump: Sanjay Rai.
Women: 400m: K M. Beenamol; Discus: Neelam J Singh; Heptathlon: G.G. Promila.

Amateur Athletic Federation of India secretary Lalit Bhanot informed that Sanjay, Neelam and Beenamol, who are training at Kiev, will leave for Edmonton on Tuesday.

Promila, who is in Bangalore, will also leave for Edmonton on Tuesday.

He said Anju Markose opted out of the championships as she is preparing for the Afro-Asian Games, to be held in Delhi in November.
