Anand stays put in third placeWorld champion Vishwanathan Anand of India stayed in third place, only six points shy of the magical barrier of 2800 points in the FIDE ratings, according to the new top 100 FIDE rating list released for July 2001.Garry Kasparov of Russia moved three points up -- to 2838 -- and leads the list while Braingames champion Vladimir Kramnik of Russia moved up five points -- to 2802 -- and is placed second. Both players played 10 games since the last list was released. Anand stays at 2794 as he has not played a rating tournament since the last list was released. Alexander Morozevich of Russia moved to the fifth position, with 2749 points, pushing Michael Adams of England, with 2744 points, down to sixth position. Adams actually lost six points. Evgeny Bareev also moved into the top ten at ninth place, with 2719 points, displacing Alexei Shirov of Spain, who lost 17 points. Shirov is now placed 12th. There are 14 players with an over 2700 rating, including former FIDE champion Alexander Khalifman. Out of the top 100 are Michal Krasenkow of Poland, down from 2655 to a shocking 2573, Jan H Timman of The Netherlands down to 2597, Lubomir Ftacnik of Slovakia down to 2580, Smagin, Bauer, Krishnan Sasikiran, Khenkin, Macieja, Palac, Marin, Stutua, Goldin, Rozentalis, Novikov, Kozul, Shabalov and Hodgson. The cut-off points for a place in the top 100 has also gone up. 2595 points were enough to get in the top 100 previously, but now it is 2598. Big movers include Emil Sutovsky of Isreal, up from 2604 to 2651, to 38th place; Aleksej Aleksandrov of Belarus, up 36 points to 2646, to 40th place; Francisco Vallejo Pons of Spain, up 71 points to 2630, to 54th place; Aleksander Delchev of Bulgaria, up 55 to 2629, to 60th place; Evgeny Pigusov of Russia, with 2613 to 74th place; Vladimir Chuchleov of Belguim, with 2607 to 82nd place and Andrei Sokolov of France, with 2604 to 92nd place. Big losers include Vladislav Tkachiev of France, down 30; Mikhail Gurevich of Belgium, down 55; Viktor Korchnoi of Switzerland, down 26; Alexander Graf, down 39 points after his move to Germany, and Ulf Andersson of Sweden, down 39.
