IOA confident of winning 2006 Asiad bid

"We are confident we will win the bid for hosting the 2006 Asian Games," Indian Olympic Association president Suresh Kalmadi said on Wednesday.

"We are ready with our presentation and we are going there in full strength to make our bid," Kalmadi declared.

Reacting to media reports that India might pull out of the race, in which Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong and Doha are the other contenders, the IOA chief said: "We met the leaders of the delegations of all Asian countries during the recent Sydney Olympic Games and have been promised support by most of them."

New Delhi, which hosted the inaugural Asian Games in 1951 and the 1982 edition, need just a few minor alterations and additions to its bid to host the 2006 Games, Kalmadi informed. He said the IOA's contingent will be leaving on Thursday to attend the Olympic Council of Asia's general council meeting in Pusan (South Korea), where a decision on who will host the Games will be taken.
