Mankad, Kirtane in ITF Masters semis

Second-seeded Harsh Mankad and third seeded Sandeep Kirtane got past their opponents in contrasting styles to cruise into the semi-finals of the ITF men's Satellite Masters tennis tournament in Delhi today.

Mankad did not have to sweat much, as his British opponent Barry Fulcher conceded the match due to indisposition shortly after conceding the first set, while the strongly built Kirtane came from behind to script a hard-fought 6-7(4/7), 6-2, 7-5 victory over compatriot Rishi Sridhar.

Top seed Danai Udomchoke of Thailand kept his reputation intact as he romped into the semi-finals with a facile 6-3, 6-3 demolition of Slovakia's Marian Leysek in a battle which lasted just 54 minutes.

Fourth seeded Per Thornadtsson of Sweden also secured a berth in the last four stage by prevailing over India's Ajay Ramaswamy 6-2 6-4, in what turned out to be a fairly lopsided contest.

Top seeded Udomchoke will now clash with Kirtane in the semi-finals while Mankad will take on Thornadtsson in the other last four clash.
