Paes-Raymond beaten

The second seeded pair of Leander Paes and Lisa Raymond made a first round exit in the mixed doubles at the Australian Open 2000 today.

They where beaten by the unseeded pair of D Adams - K Boogert 6-7(6-7), 2-6.

The match started four hours late due to rain delays during the day.

The first set went with serve. Paes/Raymond took Adams/Boogert to deuces at 6-5, but could not force the break. In the tiebreaker, Paes/Raymond fell behind by a minibreak at 2-3 and soon it was 2-5. They caught up at 6-6 but then lost a minibreak to drop the set.

In the second set, it was rather even till 2-3, when suddenly Paes/Raymond appeared take things rather easy. They were broken in the 6th and 8th games before losing the match.

For the Indian ace, the Australian Open was a big disappointment though he had a satisfying outing in the singles. He picked up 50 singles entry rank points and should soon move up inside the top-120 now in entry rank, and up near top-40 in race rank with 65 points this year.
