Gold Flake for GolmardFourth seed Jerome Golmard wore down Germany's Markus Hantschk 6-3, 6-7 (7-6), 6-3 to win the ATP Gold Flake Open tennis tournament in Madras yesterday. The Frenchman, who finished the 1999 season ranked No 35, came up with a cool and calculated game to win the final and take home $54,000 and 35 points. The German, who had disposed off Cedric Pioline in the semi-finals, appeared tired and had to rest content with the runners-up prize which was worth $31,500 and 24 points. In the doubles, the Indian dream run was shattered as Saurav Panja and Prahlad Srinath proved no match for the French-Belgian combination of Julien Boutter and Christophe Rochus in the final. The lost 5-7, 1-6. Interestingly, Boutter and Rochus had beaten top seeds Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi in the quarter-finals. For their efforts, Boutter and Rochus earned $26,550 and 35 ATP points, while the Indians took $15,630 and 24 points.
