Indians v Queensland at Brisbane (26-29 November, 1999)
India put into bat were 236-3 in the 71st over (Laxman 113, Tendulkar 83),
but were all-out for 277 in 91.3 overs.
In reply Queensland were 91-3 in the 29th over. But the Indians allowed the
fourth wicket pair (Martin Love 120 and Andrew Symonds 161 in 240 mins, 174
balls, 26 fours, 1 six) to put on 204 runs. Queensland finally made 401 to
secure a lead of 124 runs. The bright side for the Indians was the
performance of T Kumaran - who had figures of 25-7-68-5 - the best by an
Indian bowler on this tour. Anil Kumble had figures of 26-0-121-0 !
In the second innings the Indians were dimissed for 204, with Laxman once
again among runs with 73. He top scored in each innings of the match. Left
arm spinner Mike Anderson claimed 4-50 and in all had six wickets in the
match.
Needing to score 80 runs, the Queenslanders reached the target in just 20.5
overs.
Indians v New South Wales at Sydney (2-5 December, 1999)
Electing to bat the Indians were dismissed for 185 on the first day in 73.1
overs. The top scorers were Ganguly 38 and Laxman 37). The Indians got the
feel of Brett Lee's pace (3-56) for the first time on the tour.
NSW were restricted to 231 with Kumble taking 4-50 on 16.4 overs
In the second innings the Indians scored 331 runs in 110.3 overs. S Ramesh
74, Ganguly 81 and Agarkar 65 not out being the main scorers.
Set to score 286, the home team was dismissed for 192. Kumble 4-38 in 21
overs was once again among the wickets
1st Test: India v Australia at Adelaide (10-14 December, 1999)
Australia 52-4 in the 18th over before lunch were allowed to score 441 in
125.3 overs (and 512 mins)
In reply, India were at one stage 215 for 4 in the 74th over lost wickets
regularily. to be all out for 285. The main scorers were Laxman 41, Dravid
35, Tendulkar 61 and Ganguly 60. India conceded a lead of 156 runs. On the
last day India were dismissed for just 110 runs in 177 mins and off 38.1
overs. Ganguly top-scored with 43 runs.
India lost by a huge margin of 285 runs.
Indians v Tasmania at Hobart (17-20 December, 1999)
Batting first the Indians made 316-9 decl, with Rahul Dravid striking form
to score 104. Kanitkar scored 58. Tasmania in reply ran up a huge total of
548-5 dec (in 168 over and 705 mins)
Facing a deficit of 232 runs, the India used the remaining time as batting
practice to score 130-3 in 61 overs.
The match was drawn.
2nd Test: India v Australia at Melbourne (26-30 December, 1999)
Winning the toss India put in the opponents. (Just for the record, India
has
won only one Test out the 37 occasions they have put in the oppoents to bat
in Tests). Australia were 28-2 in the 11th over and were five wickets down
for 197 in the 65th over. However Australia managed to reach 405 runs with
some useful contributions from the lower order.
India in reply conceded a lead of 167 runs despite a hundred (116) by
skipper Tendulkar.
In the second knock the Australians made 208-5 dec. Ajit Agarkar claimed
three wickets for a match tally of six.
Needing 376 runs to win, the Indians were dismissed for 195. Tendulkar with
52 once again top-scored.
India lost by 180 runs.
3rd Test: India v Australia at Sydney (2-4 December, 1999)
India electing to bat were dismissed for 150 in 68 overs. In reply,
Australia piled up 552 runs for the loss of just five wickets on the third
day, after being 2-49 at one stage.
Facing a mammoth lead of 402, the tourists were dismissed for 261 runs in just 58 overs and 260 minutes. Opener Laxman scored 167 runs - which was 63.98 % runs of his teams
total.
