Pak asks for SAF games to be postponed

Pakistan has requested a postponement of the IXth South Asian Federation Games.

Islamabad has, thus, requested that host country Nepal reschedule it to the second half of 1999.

The reason is financial, with Pakistan pointing out that participation in two international games -- the Commonwealth, in September, and the XIII Asian Games in December -- puts a strain on its fiscal resources.

The IXth SAF Games were scheduled for March 1999, in Kathmandu, which means it falls within the current fiscal year.

This will mean that the Games are being postponed yet again. Earlier slated for 1997, Kathmandu found itself unable to complete the required infrastructural development in time.
