When we asked our readers how they rated Lal Bahadur Shastri's legacy, 40 years after his death, they responses came pouring in. Yesterday we posted the first bunch of what readers had to say. Here's the second lot:
Readers response I: 'Shastri's life will inspire generations'
I have never ever heard more honest and efficient person like him and the respect I have for him can never have for any one else. My salute to this great Martyr
-- Praveen Bahuguna
HIS AGGRESSIVE NATURE WHEN INDIA FOUGHT PAKISTAN.HE IS SIMPLE NATURED AND IDEALISTIC.
-- SHANKAR
What to say about such a great and patriot person. I don't want to make a political comment, but I think the only thing which went wrong with him was that he didn't belong to Nehru family.
Our politicians should learn something from him.
-- Sachin
The Present India Would have been something different that what it is at the moment. If we would ever get a PM like him it would be only and only Mr. Lal Bahadur Shastri himself in his reincarnation.
-- Inderbir Singh
In my opioion he was clean statesman and great leader much bigger then even Mahatma Gandhiji
-- Dilip Talreja
Honesty and a Zeal to work for the development of nation makes him a great man.But the sad part is people forget people who work selflessly for nation.
-- Krishna
Post partition, every politician, who claimed/claims that they fought for freedom, minted money and looted govt benefits like free land, quotas, licences for their children, and are solely responsible for the present day corruption, people like Shastriji can be counted on fingers. I dont think an ordinary persons like me can really give tribute to this all time great person. May God keep on sending on earth these kind of people even after centuries, they can show path to generations, but the tragedy is no wants to follow them.
-- Naresh Kr. Suri
He was genius.
-- ankur tripathi
History has forgotten this giant hero ;as history is also twisted in the hands of politician who are greedy of money & power and its is said he became a victim of it at tashkent even
-- R C Negi
Great man,we need politican like him.
-- george a fernandes
Really Good One..quite a good eyeopener...Cant see such a man in these days..
-- Muthu
I still remember " MISS A MEAL DAY ".during Shastriji's short period. Wish it was continued as it would have taught us self control and discipline.
-- S Mukherjee
Where is He and where is our current leaders? Can you compare his moral with the legist raters who got suspended for taking bribe to ask question in parliament? Now they are going to court against the punishment. It is such a shameful thing that one shouldn't have shown his face to the public. But what we are seeing? Even court is allowing such cases. "Mera Bharat Mahan". Don't ever compare Shastri with present day politicians.
-- Ramakrishna Hegde
His most enduring legacy is when he resigned as the railway minister, citing he was responsible for a train accident.
-- Amarendra
We were lucky to have a man of honesty, integrity and efficiency in Indian public life in Indian History. If not today's politician following his foot steps atleast they should remember him today atleast for a few seconds in their todays life.
May We request God to give re-birth to Shastri in a better way to improve India.
-- P S Ganapathy
I am a software engineer and don't take much interest in politics but for Lal Bahadur Shastri!Yes, he was most enduring legacy.
-- Rajneesh
Jai Jawan Jai Kisan
-- Ayan Datta
LBS is the greatst PM India has ever had so far. History as it always has shown "GOOD FOLKS" die early and the country is left with wretched power hungry demons doing anything to hold on to power.
-- kumaran natarajan
I like to say, that till today no single politician has not worked or maintained the sincerity, honesty and dedication to society and post which people elected to serve them like Mr. Shastriji. He was the man on his words. I am fan of Mr.Shastri and Mr.S Nijalingappa (Ex-Chief Minister of Karnataka), the only two people I like in the congress party.
-- Rajendra Kumar .B
Truly, He has been a legend and and an example of how a politican should be. Let his soul rest in peace.

-- kuldeep jain
I personally feel very bad that we the people of INDIA did and still doing i big mistake in terms of not realizing the values of this Great leader of INDIA even after Indipendence ,as I STRONGLY he is the one and only leader who has the vision of Proesperous and STRONG INDIA in reality and he cotributed a lot interms of Deeds but not in terms of speech which others did and still the so called leaders doing without shame and that clear vision so i want every citizen of INDIA should know and adopt the great values of this rare leader who is masked by this fake heros
-- Gururaj B Tennalli
He was not corrupt and did not indulge in instituting and promoting his clan.
On the down side he probably over played the Hindi card. Tamil nadu reacted and since then the fault line of Dravidian Non Dravidian has surfaced.
-- Job Mathew
shastriji was man of Honesty, integrity and great abilities. never we should expect anything from current day politicians of congress party or any other party to be like him.
He was better than Nehru in all departments and ethics and simplicity.
-- bhaskar
It is the most unfortunate thing that we have forgotten this great man who was honest and clean as the Mahatma and had the morale courage to ask the people to skip the dinner once a week and the people follwed it!
After him the whole Indian poltics has beome dirty, corrupt and naexus between the ploticians and the criminals and way of life to make money and establish the dynastic rule!
we need today at least 100 personaliites like him. I salute him!
