For over 10 days now, 3,700 firefighters have been battling the massive wildfire near California’s Yosemite National Park. The Rim Fire has scorched 1,34,000 acres, an area approximately the size of Chicago.
The fire continues to grow in size, but firemen claim to have been making progress. As of now, 20 per cent of it has been contained.
So huge is the fire that NASA astronaut Karen Nyberg is keeping track of it from outer space.

Over 2,000 firefighters are battling the blaze that has entered a section of Yosemite National Park and is currently five per cent contained.

This natural-colour satellite image of the drought-fueled Rim Fire was collected by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer, MODIS, aboard NASA's Terra satellite on August 25.
The fire began on August 17 and continues to burn on the Stanislaus National Forest, Yosemite National Park, and Bureau of Land Management and state responsibility land. Over 224 square miles have been affected.
