The Maharashtra Navnirmal Sena took to the streets yet again, this time targeting the bhelpuri and pani puri vendors in Mumbai and Thane. The attacked came a day after a Mumbai tabloid exposed a vendor who was caught on camera while urinating in a container which was used to serve customers.

Even as the police were busy overseeing processions on the occasion of Dr B R Ambedkar's birth anniversary, MNS activists swooped on hundreds of pani puri and bhel puri stalls, generally owned and run by North Indians. The activists went on a rampage and dumped the food from the stalls onto the streets. They also broke a few handcarts.

MNS Vice-President V Saraswat, said, "We took action as the authorities were not taking action against unauthorised pani puri and bhel puri vendors. We will continue our action until Mumbai's streets are rid of unauthorised pani puri walas," Saraswat.
