The Election Commission has asked the Uttar Pradesh government to cover all the statues of Chief Minister Mayawati and elephants, the Bahujan Samaj Party's poll symbol, installed in public places across Uttar Pradesh.
The decision was taken by the EC weeks before the state assembly elections.

The Election Commission later clarified its order, saying each and every statue of elephant and of Mayawati should be covered by 5 pm on January 11.
Statues erected across Uttar Pradesh in public places will have to be draped, said the EC, and the local authorities will have to bear the expenses of covering up the statues.

Do you, dear readers, agree with the EC's diktat that the statues of Mayawati and elephants have to be covered as they may influence the voters?
Or do you think the commission is acting a bit overzealous in its attempt to ensure a fair poll process in India's politically most sensitive state?
