VOTE! The biggest FLOP of Election 2014
The country has spoken loud and clear and it’s a landslide verdict in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party. However, there are scores of candidates whose loud words during campaigning makes one now wonder one simple thing -- what were you guys thinking before making those ‘tall’ remarks? Clearly, the voices of these politicians and celebrities were so loud that they couldn’t hear a word from the public.
From Kumar Vishwas’s exuding (over)confidence (‘will defeat Rahul Gandhi by over 1 lakh votes’) to Nagma’s simple arguments (‘even Modi is a first time candidate in UP’), these leaders are cutting sorry figures following the results.

Actress Rakhi Sawant thought that elections were a fairytale romance, but it turned out to be a tragedy for her as she got just over 2,000 votes and ended up being sixth in the Mumbai North West parliamentary constituency.

Kumar Vishwas
The popular poet-turned-politician has paid the price for taking the opposition too lightly in Amethi.
The Aam Aadmi Party leader got 25,527 votes and ended up fourth following Rahul Gandhi (4,08,651 votes), Smriti Irani (3,00,748 votes) and BSP’s Dharmendra Singh (57,716 votes).

Yogendra Yadav
Prominent psephologist Yogendra Yadav clearly failed to gauge the mood of the voters in Gurgaon. The AAP leader got just 79,452 votes (compared to BJP’s winner Rao Inderjit Singh’s 6,44,780 votes), ended up fourth, and lost his deposit.

Salman Khurshid
The external affairs minister in the United Progressive Alliance government encountered a humiliating defeat in his home constituency of Farrukhabad where he ended up at fourth position and got only 95,543 votes.
BJP’s Mukhesh Rajput won the seat with 406,195 votes.

Shazia Ilmi
AAP’s prominent face Shazia Ilmi couldn’t make any difference in Ghaziabad and ended up in fifth position after she received only 89,147 votes.
Former army chief and BJP candidate V K Singh got a whopping 7.5 lakh votes and won the seat.

Controversial politician Pramod Muthalik’s woes didn’t end after he was disallowed entry to the BJP and put up dismal shows at two constituencies where he contested as an independent.
The Shree Ram Sene chief managed to bag just 5,000 votes in Dharwad and 4,000 votes in Bangalore South.

Karti Chidambaram
The son of Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram looked confident as he made his poll debut from Sivaganga after his father decided to skip the elections.
However, his performance was far from satisfactory as he ended up fourth in this erstwhile bastion and bagged just over a lakh votes -- nearly 3.76 lakh votes behind AIADMK’s P R Senthilnathan, the winning candidate.

Kapil Sibal
Union minister Kapil Sibal put up a not-so-convincing show in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk constituency -- from where he was the sitting MP -- and ended up being third with 1,76,206 votes.
Sibal was defeated by BJP’s Harsh Vardhan (4,37,938 votes) and was even behind journalist-turned-political debutant Ashutosh who got over 3 lakh votes.

Ameeta Singh
Congress’s Ameeta Singh had some words of wisdom for her opponent BJP’s Varun Gandhi ('Sanjay Gandhi would've been pained by Varun today') but the voters of Sultanpur clearly rejected her.
She ended up at the fourth position and bagged only 41,000 votes, a minute fraction of the 4 lakh votes that Gandhi received.

Actress-turned-politician Nagma couldn’t make much of a difference in Meerut where she received just 40,000 votes and ended up in fourth position. BJP’s Rajendra Aggarwal almost got 5 lakh votes more than her.

Not many voters in Jaunpur were impressed by the political acumen of Bhojpuri star Ravi Kishan as the Congress candidate ended up in sixth position and was over 3.20 lakh votes behind Krishna Pratap -- the winning candidate from BJP.

The son of Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi cut a sorry figure as he was ranked sixth in Mumbai North Central constituency after he got only 9,873 votes.
The seat was won by BJP’s Poonam Mahajan who received 4,78,535 votes.
