The mortal remains of famous comedian, actor and satirist Jaspal Bhatti were consigned to flames at a cremation ground here Thursday evening. Bhatti died in a road accident near Punjab's Nakodar town, 170 km from here, in the morning.
Bhatti`s pyre was lit by his son Jasraj, who was himself injured in the accident but was discharged from hospital in the afternoon. Hundreds of mourners from diverse fields attended the cremation.
These included politicians, leading celebrities of the Punjabi film and theatre industry and scores of friends of Bhatti. Earlier, a large number of mourners reached his Sector 19 residence.
"The king of comedy has left everyone in tears. He did not deserve this," one of his close associates said at the cremation ground. Bhatti was a popular face on television and in Bollywood films with his comedy shows and appearances.
His TV shows "Ulta-Pulta" and "Flop Show" had entertained TV audiences in the late 1980s and 1990s.
Legendary Diego Maradona cast his spell on football crazy fans of Kerala this week, entertaining them with some magical moves with the ball, including his left-footed manoeuvres and headers, at the jampacked Municipal Jawahar Stadium here.
It was a dream come true for the thousands of football fans who patiently waited for hours in the scorching sun to see in action the iconic 1986 World Cup winning captain of Argentina.
A thunderous applause from the fans in the stadium, which has an official capacity of 50,000, greeted Maradona as he made his appearance at around 11 am. Clad in half-sleeves shirt and jeans, the 51-year-old veteran blew kisses and waved at the delirious fans before singing a Spanish number and shaking his legs with renowned TV personality Renjini Haridas.
Maradona took the mike from the Renjini and thumping his chest said, "I love India. I love Kerala" sending the fans who had come from across the State into a frenzy. Then came the virtual treat as Maradona kicked a few balls into the crowd and performed some of his magical moves on the stage along with Indian football great I.M. Vijayan.
He also cut a cake, made in the shape of a playground with a football on top of it, in an advance celebration of his 52nd birthday which falls on October 30.
In yet another shocking incident of murder, Bidushi Dash Barde, a former Miss Chennai and South Indian actor-model was found dead in her flat in Manish Garden building, Andheri (West), on Monday night. Bidushi's software engineer husband Kedar Barde found her lying in a pool of blood at their residence.
According to the police, Kedar informed them at 9.30 pm after he took Bidushi to the hospital. The victim had sustained a deep wound on the head and had nail marks on her face and neck.
Based on the post-mortem report, the Mumbai police have registered a case of murder. Bidushi's father said that his daughter was very happy in Mumbai and had never fought with anyone.

The 23-year-old model, had started seeking psychiatric help and was on anti-depressants, the police said. She had recently undergone surgery on her eyelids and a hair transplant.
