IN PICS: The DEADLIEST air disasters in history

Thousands of lives have been lost around the world in recent years owing to aircraft disasters.

While some of the mishaps have been blamed on inclement weather others have resulted out of mechanical failures or pilot failures or terror attacks.

On Thursday a Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur carrying 280 passengers and 15 crew crashed into eastern Ukraine

This crash comes four months after the Beijing-bound Malaysia Airlines MH 370 disappeared with 239 people including five Indians on board after taking off from Kuala Lumpur on March 8. The plane has still not been found.

Rediff.com takes a look at some of the disastrous air crashes.
