Heavy rains continued to lash several parts of Mumbai for the second consecutive day on Thursday, disrupting rail and air traffic, causing inconvenience to a lot of commuters.
According to statistics collated by the weather bureau from 8.30 am on Thursday to 8.30 am on Friday, Colaba recorded 162.8 mm of rainfall and Santacruz received 116 mm of rainfall Friday.
The weather monitoring system installed by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai recorded 86 mm rainfall in the city (Colaba to Sion), 78 mm in the eastern suburbs (Kurla to Mulund) and 61 mm in the western suburbs (Bandra to Dahisar) for the same period.

Trains ran behind schedule by 25-30 minutes during the morning peak hour traffic. However, by noon the delay on the two railway corridors Central and Western was brought down to 10-15 minutes. Harbour line trains, however, from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus to Panvel were running late by more than an hour.
The services on the harbour railway lines came to a grinding halt briefly in the morning due to a technical failure on account of the rains. However, the problem was rectified and the services restored.
Road traffic was slow but there were no snarls on any of the arterial routes. However, air traffic was disrupted for a while this morning on account of the incessant rains."Due to sudden drop in visibility of 300 metres all flight operations were suspended at the international airport between 10:00 to 10:17 hours. But now its all normal," a Mumbai International Airport Limited spokperson said.

omplaints of water logging were reported from areas like Vile Parle, Borivali, Kandivali, Malad, Andheri, Malad, Dharavi and few other areas. No incidents of house and wall collapse were reported, officials said.The fact that the incessant rains did not coincide with the high tides helped the authorities in maintaining normalcy. High tide in the sea enveloping Mumbai is expected at 5. 21 pm at 4.71 meters.
