The presence of young Raihan and Miraya, the two children of Priyanka Gandhi, in electioneering in Amethi and Rae Bareli on Thursday revived among old Congress supporters memories of days when late Rajiv Gandhi used to bring his family for campaigning.

Senior citizen Baburam remembered Rajiv Gandhi in 1984-89 when the young Rahul and Priyanka often accompanied him.

"It was here that the two Gandhi children apparently learned the basics of politics and got to know the reality of real India and today we saw a kind of history being repeated", said Congress district unit president Prem Narain Tewari.

Rahul and Priyanka along with their father had often visited religious and spiritual places like the mazaar (tomb) of Malik Mohammad Jaisi, Tikarmafi ashram and Nand Mahar, Ram Murti Shukla, a former block pramukh of Amethi said.

Meanwhile, Priyanka said nothing much should be read into bringing her children along with her during campaigning.

 

"They are always with me. I have brought them to see the picture of villages of UP and how people live here and spend their lives," she said.

 

On UP Chief Minister Mayawati's remarks that Congress has to seek votes through door-to-door campaign because it had neglected development, Priyanka said, "If someone starts attacking you, it shows that they consider themselves to be losers."
