Cong to fare badly in UP, win in Uttarakhand, Manipur: Survey

A post-poll survey conducted by CNN-IBN, The Week and CSDS in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Manipur has revealed some interesting results.

The Samajwadi Party will win 34 per cent of the total vote share of the UP polls, according to the survey.

The ruling Bahujan Samaj Party will get only 24 per cent of the total vote share, says the survey.

In spite of extensive campaigning by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the Congress's vote share -- 12 per cent -- will actually decrease by one per cent from the 2007 polls.

The Bharatiya Janata Party will get 14 per cent of the total vote share.

SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav has emerged as the most popular choice for UP chief minister.

SAD-BJP to retain power in Punjab


The Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP combine is all set to retain power in Punjab, according to the survey.

The SAD-BJP combine will get between 51-63 seats while the Congress will get between 48-60 seats, says the survey.

As many as 38 per cent of people surveyed want current Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to continue. Thirty three per cent people were in favour of Congress leader Amarinder Singh becoming the CM.

Congress to get maximum seats in Uttarakhand


In spite of the popularity of its chief minister B C Khanduri, the BJP may lose power in Uttarakhand, says the survey,

The Congress will win between 31-41 seats, securing 39 per cent of the votes. The BJP will get between 22-32 seats.

Thirty three per cent of the people surveyed were in favour of Khanduri continuing as the Uttaranchal CM.

Congress to retain power in Manipur


The Congress government, led by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, will return to power in Manipur, says the survey.

Twenty five per cent of the people surveyed found Singh the best choice for the CM's post.

The Congress is likely to get 30 per cent of the vote share, says the survey.
